Thokozani Kaitane WASH Engineer

Thokozani an experienced water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) professional with over 12 years of experience working on the technical design and implementation of WASH systems development with water utilities for both rural and urban water supply and sanitation. Thokozani worked with the Blantyre Water Board and Plan International for many years leading the planning, implementation, and evaluation of projects to improve effective and efficient service delivery to communities around Malawi, including national level programs. He supervised infrastructure system designs at all levels such as gravity-fed systems, solar powered reticulated systems, and piped-water systems. Thokozani is skilled at fostering communication among critical stakeholders from Malawi government institutions (Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council), large international NGOs, sub-grantees, and communities. Thokozani has also supported organizations in water demand management to reduce the level of non-revenue water by water utilities and increase water-use efficiency of consumers.

At Water For People as WASH Engineer, Thokozani is the technical lead, providing technical oversight in the design and construction of all projects implemented by Water For People in Malawi. Thokozani led the technical implementation of two gravity-fed water supply schemes (Livunzu and Mapelera) in Chikwawa and supported the hydrological assessment of groundwater in Chikwawa with Northwater of America. He has also led the design and supervision, including contract management, of the construction of boreholes and sanitation and hygiene related infrastructure for schools. In addition to his leadership on technical aspects of programs, Thokozani applies his background in project management to support Water For People in monitoring and evaluation, budgeting, and proposal development.

Thokozani has a Master of Business Administration degree from the Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute in Malawi and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Malawi.
