Laura Burns Senior Manager of wash financing and sustainability

Laura is an accomplished development professional with more than eight years of experience working on a range of social issues, and more than five years working in the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector. She is experienced in developing and managing programs, and collaborating closely with local stakeholders at all levels. Laura joined Water For People in January 2015, and spent four years providing backstopping support to Water For People’s nine country programs in Africa, Latin America, and Asia, building an intimate knowledge of Water For People’s programs and range of specific implementation tools.

In 2019, Laura moved to a new role, where she works to strengthen Water For People’s sustainability initiatives with a focus on finance, while also supporting Strategic Advisory Services achieve scale through training and advocacy. Laura manages Water For People’s Sustainable Services Checklist process, which is the annual monitoring of districts’ ability to sustain reliable WASH services. She also manages the process of mapping key coverage and sustainability milestones and the associated costs of these milestones. Laura supports organizations and districts in developing district investment plans to outline the resources required to implement and sustain WASH services in a district.

She has a bachelor’s degree in International Studies, Spanish, and Environmental Studies, and a master’s degree in International Development from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver.
