Learning Agenda
Systems Change
The WASH system is all the social, technical, institutional, environmental and financial factors, actors, motivations and interactions that influence WASH service delivery in a given context (Huston & Moriarty, 2019). Strong local and national systems drive change through ensuring universal water, sanitation and hygiene services, leading to improved health and wellbeing for all.
The systems change learning questions focus on identifying emerging best examples in strengthening national WASH systems to achieve universal services. They explore critical drivers and enabling factors for system change within different political economies, including policy, governance, and stakeholder relations. The questions also examine how to ignite systems leadership to motivate champions across various levels, the effectiveness of building blocks analysis in prioritising system strengthening activities, and necessary changes in WASH policies and infrastructure to ensure equitable access. Additionally, they highlight examples of unblocking political, financial, and technical leadership at the regional level to accelerate progress toward SDG 6 and scaling best practices.
