El agua de lluvia recolectada se puede almacenar en estos dep\u00f3sitos para el consumo dom\u00e9stico futuro, y cualquier desbordamiento se puede almacenar en dep\u00f3sitos subterr\u00e1neos de agua para usos adicionales, como el riego.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Generalmente, aparte de las impurezas recogidas de la atm\u00f3sfera, el agua de lluvia est\u00e1 libre de la mayor parte de la contaminaci\u00f3n qu\u00edmica y bacteriol\u00f3gica. Esto lo convierte en una opci\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica para el consumo dom\u00e9stico con un tratamiento m\u00ednimo. Esta recarga puede luego ser extra\u00edda para usos futuros, como riego para cultivos de verano.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Para condiciones \u00f3ptimas de recolecci\u00f3n de agua de lluvia, el \u00e1rea de captaci\u00f3n debe tener un m\u00ednimo de 100 m<sup>2<\/sup> en zonas donde la precipitaci\u00f3n media anual es superior a 1.350 mm. En zonas \u00e1ridas donde la precipitaci\u00f3n es inferior a 700 mm, el \u00e1rea de captaci\u00f3n debe ser de al menos 200 m<sup>2<\/sup>. La recolecci\u00f3n de agua de lluvia puede ser especialmente \u00fatil en estas \u00e1reas \u00e1ridas donde la cantidad de agua recolectada puede servir a un pueblo de 50 familias durante m\u00e1s de dos meses (solo para consumo).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Para maximizar la recolecci\u00f3n de agua de lluvia, Water For People recomienda las siguientes medidas:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>La cuenca debe contar con medidas de rectificaci\u00f3n, como enlucidos o escorrent\u00edas, si se requiere.&nbsp;<\/li><li>El canal\u00f3n y el pozo de recarga deben dise\u00f1arse de acuerdo con los d\u00edas de mayor intensidad de lluvia y el perfil del suelo.&nbsp;<\/li><li>El agua de lluvia debe canalizarse a trav\u00e9s de un filtro especialmente dise\u00f1ado, seg\u00fan el nivel de impurezas.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En India, Water For People est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ando sitios de recolecci\u00f3n de agua de lluvia en el distrito de Nalanda del estado de Bihar, donde la precipitaci\u00f3n promedio anual es de 1002 mm. Estamos dise\u00f1ando 17.5m<sup>3 <\/sup>de agua de lluvia recolectada para consumo y 210m<sup>3 <\/sup>para la recarga de aguas subterr\u00e1neas. Despu\u00e9s de recolectar el agua de lluvia, tratamos el agua a trav\u00e9s de un proceso UV y recomendamos un proceso de prueba de agua de 14 par\u00e1metros antes del consumo. Una vez satisfechas las necesidades de consumo, las comunidades tambi\u00e9n almacenan una parte del agua de lluvia en un tanque de almacenamiento de mamposter\u00eda. Peri\u00f3dicamente, aplicamos los coagulantes necesarios para mantener el agua segura para la pr\u00f3xima temporada de escasez de agua.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Debido a que esta es una tecnolog\u00eda nueva en el \u00e1rea, la aceptaci\u00f3n local es el mayor desaf\u00edo. Water For People contin\u00faa socializando los beneficios de la recolecci\u00f3n de agua de lluvia con las comunidades. Organizamos actividades de desarrollo de capacidades centradas en la gesti\u00f3n integrada de los recursos h\u00eddricos y el cambio de comportamiento. Destacamos los desaf\u00edos asociados con el agotamiento de las aguas subterr\u00e1neas, especialmente el acceso limitado al agua durante el pico del verano. Si implementamos un enfoque adecuado de gesti\u00f3n integrada de los recursos h\u00eddricos y todos los hogares adoptan estas t\u00e9cnicas, entonces, en una o dos temporadas, el agua subterr\u00e1nea podr\u00eda aumentar considerablemente a 0,60-0,80 m.
