En la \u00faltima d\u00e9cada, sin embargo, las iniciativas de financiaci\u00f3n destinadas a tener un impacto m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de los asuntos comerciales, com\u00fanmente denominadas financiaci\u00f3n verde, han cobrado impulso.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bajo esta premisa, las instituciones de microfinanzas (IMF) en Am\u00e9rica Latina, y espec\u00edficamente en Guatemala, han mostrado una mayor apertura a iniciativas de financiamiento no tradicionales, incluyendo vivienda de inter\u00e9s social, paneles solares, cocinas ahorradoras de le\u00f1a y agricultura sostenible. Tambi\u00e9n comenzamos a ver el surgimiento de financiamiento para soluciones descentralizadas de agua y saneamiento a peque\u00f1a escala para familias sin acceso a soluciones de vivienda digna e higi\u00e9nica.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dando los primeros pasos<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En noviembre de 2020, Water For People en Guatemala firm\u00f3 un acuerdo de cooperaci\u00f3n con la IMF Fundaci\u00f3n de Asesor\u00eda a la Peque\u00f1a Empresa (FAPE) en un distrito donde no implementamos el <a href=\"https:\/\/thewashroom.waterforpeople.org\/es\/resources\/everyone-forever-water-for-peoples-wash-system-strengthening-model\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Todos para siempre<\/a> modelo para financiar soluciones integrales para el mejoramiento e instalaci\u00f3n de unidades de saneamiento higi\u00e9nico y digno a nivel domiciliario. Esto incluye la construcci\u00f3n y remodelaci\u00f3n de ba\u00f1os y \u00e1reas anexas como el lavabo y la ducha, la compra de derechos de agua y la perforaci\u00f3n de pozos de agua.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El modelo busca demostrarle al sector de las microfinanzas un nicho de mercado desatendido y un financiamiento de impacto, contribuyendo directamente al logro del Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) 6. Esta es una ventana de oportunidad para que la IMF ofrezca un producto diferenciado y aborde los problemas de agua y saneamiento. problema de saneamiento desde una perspectiva de mercado.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thewashroom.waterforpeople.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/Micro-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4201\" width=\"305\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thewashroom.waterforpeople.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/Micro-2.png 451w, https:\/\/thewashroom.waterforpeople.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/Micro-2-275x300.png 275w, https:\/\/thewashroom.waterforpeople.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/Micro-2-11x12.png 11w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 305px) 100vw, 305px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 agua y saneamiento?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La cobertura promedio de saneamiento a nivel de pa\u00eds en \u00e1reas rurales es baja en comparaci\u00f3n con las \u00e1reas urbanas. Seg\u00fan el censo de poblaci\u00f3n, el 46% de la poblaci\u00f3n guatemalteca vive en zonas rurales,<sup>1<\/sup> y solo el 55% de la poblaci\u00f3n tiene acceso al alcantarillado urbano. Esto significa que 45% de la poblaci\u00f3n total tiene problemas de acceso a saneamiento digno,<sup>2<\/sup> destacando el problema no abordado. Las necesidades tanto de agua como de saneamiento como derecho humano est\u00e1n \u00edntimamente relacionadas: a falta de uno, hay escasez del otro; abordar uno solo resuelve parte del problema.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Para la IMF es m\u00e1s atractivo ofrecer soluciones integrales basadas en la rentabilidad y una mayor gama de servicios. Para los usuarios, contar con una opci\u00f3n de financiamiento para una necesidad b\u00e1sica representa una oportunidad de inclusi\u00f3n financiera y mejora de la calidad de vida de la familia que dedica tiempo a buscar agua o un lugar adecuado para realizar las necesidades b\u00e1sicas. La verificaci\u00f3n in situ del financiamiento otorgado por la IMF muestra los desaf\u00edos del sector en las zonas atendidas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>N\u00ba de cr\u00e9ditos (4 meses)<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/td><td><strong>Cantidad total<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/td><td><strong>Promedio<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>45&nbsp;<\/td><td>$21,230&nbsp;<\/td><td>$471&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De 45 cr\u00e9ditos otorgados de noviembre de 2020 a marzo de 2021, una muestra de usuarios mostr\u00f3 que los cr\u00e9ditos se utilizaron para construir ba\u00f1os, remodelar y conectar a drenajes; en otros casos, fueron para perforar pozos de agua, influenciados por la escasez de agua en los sistemas de gravedad por la tala indiscriminada de bosques que contienen fuentes de agua, y la poca o nula gesti\u00f3n de un plan de gesti\u00f3n integral de recursos h\u00eddricos por parte de las autoridades competentes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thewashroom.waterforpeople.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/Micro-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4202\" width=\"278\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thewashroom.waterforpeople.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/Micro-3.jpg 627w, https:\/\/thewashroom.waterforpeople.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/Micro-3-222x300.jpg 222w, https:\/\/thewashroom.waterforpeople.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/Micro-3-9x12.jpg 9w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 278px) 100vw, 278px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u00bfPodr\u00eda ser esta una opci\u00f3n para escalar agua y saneamiento con un enfoque de mercado?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ampliar las iniciativas de agua, saneamiento e higiene representa un desaf\u00edo debido a la baja prioridad que los gobiernos le dan a este sector. Por lo tanto, la participaci\u00f3n del sector privado es un mecanismo alternativo con ingredientes de sostenibilidad en t\u00e9rminos de acceso y cobertura.
