Beatriz Alvarado Abanto National Advisor - Peru

Beatriz is a health professional with 25 years of experience providing leadership and technical assistance to projects at the national, regional, municipal, and communal levels on issues related to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), health, and social development, in collaboration with state institutions, grassroots non-government organizations (NGO), and private sector actors. Beatriz is highly skilled at distilling and simplifying complex health and WASH concepts to appeal to a broader audience. Her effective communication and facilitation skills have helped in expanding community outreach and advocacy within the WASH sector at various levels of the government. She has also supervised and implemented dozens of projects within Peru for international agencies including GIZ, CARE, Pathfinder International-USAID PROFONANPE, and Interaction in Health.

Beatriz began with Water For People in 2014 and is currently the National Advisor in Peru. Since joining Water For People, Beatriz has supported capacity strengthening of WASH stakeholders in Peru through the development of guidelines and training processes for municipal technical area managers, water and sanitation committees (JASS), and rural households. At the same time, she has worked to promote the development and implementation of management tools to close water and santiation coverage gaps and to promote the quality and sustainability of water and sanitation services at the regional level.

Beatriz has a master’s degrees in Public Health and Health Management from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Peru and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the Universidad Nacional de Cajamarca in Peru.
